Wedding invitation design

Do you hand paint and calligraphy each invitation?

This is THE question I get asked most frequently. There are actually two answers to this question depending on how it is asked.

I start each invitation design as it's own piece of customized artwork. So is your invitation 100% unique? YES! I never double dip on designs, and though stylistically some elements may be the same as I've used on other projects, your project is completely bespoke to your event and your theme.

Once I have the final design (see wedding invitation timeline breakdown) answer 2 comes in. No, I do not paint each individual invitation. The final invitation design is beautifully reproduced on high quality papers or another substrate we have spoken about via flat printing, foiling, letterpress, or a combo of the three. Depending on scope I may hand paint a flower or write the spot calligraphy (words such as RSVP, Reply, Directions, Menu etc.) on each piece, items such as escort cards and envelope addresses are always done be hand.

Can I have extra invites printed?

Of course! I will ask you before starting your project your estimated number of attendees. This does not have to be the final number. Before I send your final project to my printer I will ask you for your final totals. We can make any adjustments to your invoice throughout your project to add on any additional invites you need. Please feel free to include an overhead to have extras on hand should you want to include more guests late, have a few heirloom pieces, or have extras in case a few pieces get lost in the mail. It's much easier to add on to your totals before printing happens. I usually will recommend printing at least 10 more full suites than what your guest list is.

Will you mail my invitations for me?

I'd love to! In fact this is already part of any of my wedding invitation packages. It's one less thing for you to worry about as you're busy tying up loose ends for your big day. I take care of running to the post office, obtaining exact postage, assembling all the invitations and making sure they arrive at the post office safe. Any extra invites will be mailed to you to have on hand.

What does "bespoke" mean?

Bespoke wedding invitations mean that you are getting a 100% custom designed suite just for you. All bespoke suites come with custom artwork and calligraphy that we discuss prior to starting your project. Every inch of your design is unique to you and your event. A bespoke invitation ensures that you and your guests will not be able to say "oh I seen that invitation design on *insert popular online wedding site here* "

I love your work how do I book you for my wedding invitations?

I'm so glad to hear! Pop on over to my contact page love and fill out the short form with a message about what you are looking for. I will be in contact with you shortly to discuss further details! It's that simple!

Do you offer calligraphy addressing on my envelopes?

I no longer offer a la carte envelope calligraphy options for envelope only orders. I’m happy to include envelope calligraphy in your custom wedding invitation order! Click here to learn more about my custom design process to see if it’s right for you!

I literally have no idea what I want

I know this isn't a question, but I hear it a lot. It's perfectly OK to not have a vision of what you want your invitation suite to look like. I have years of design experience to help out in just these cases! I'll start off with a few questions about your event and details that I think we can pull from for inspiration. Once I have all the facts I need I'll get to work crafting a custom design in the form of a sketch to go over what your suite will look like. Team work!

Do you offer gold foiling, letterpress or other speciality printing services?

I sure do! If you are interested in one of these specialty services please let me know at the beginning of your project so I can quote and prepare your timeline accordingly.

I already have a design can you help with just the printing?

No, I only offer a full-service design experience I am not a print house for other designer’s work nor do I work with other designers to create your invitations.

Will you release the digital files for me to print the invitations somewhere else?

Part of working with Blush & Blue Designs is the luxury of not having to worry about finding a printer, figuring out what papers print best with your invitations, running test prints on your own for your invitations, printing everything and assembling all your beautiful invitations correctly to send out to your guests in time. I take care of all of these facets for you because I find so much joy in the production and paper matching perfectly to the aesthetic of your big day. Your project as a whole is a testament to my abilities as a stationer and designer. For this reason my packages are only scoped to be printed with me and are not an option to be released digitally so I can maintain the integrity of my work. Thank you for your understanding.

Shipping and returns

Can I return artwork I purchased?

All sales of original artwork are final. If you wish to return a reproduction print, a restocking fee amounting to 20% of the print (and varnish, if applicable) cost will be applied. I am more than happy to exchange a print for you, though the restocking fee for the original print will still be applied, as I print-to-order and try my best to not have prints sitting in stock.

How long do I have to make a claim for a return or exchange?

Please be prompt in inspecting your packages and prints, you will have 7 days from receipt of delivery to reach out for a return or exchange. I do not accept returns or exchanges past 7 days. If your package was damaged due to the courier service used please open a claim with that company. Please note the above restocking fee when reaching out.

When will I receive my new item/ refund?

Depending on the issue you will receive your refund/exchange/reship when your item has been returned or you have fulfilled all necessary actions on your end that I need from you. Once this has been done please allow up to 14 days for our processing system to “speak” with your financial institution or for me to release any necessary items for shipping.

If you are exchanging a print, your new print will only be released from me when your exchange print has been received from you in the same condition in which it left my studio.

My print/ art arrived damaged what do I do?

I am not liable for any mishandling or failed delivery by the shipping service (USPS or UPS, domestically or internationally), and I am not liable for any damage incurred post-delivery. I work hard to package each order with care in sturdy flat mailers and tubes so that it arrives undamaged. Once your art leaves my studio I no longer am in charge in how it is treated. Please be kind when reaching out and remember that I do not run the post office or UPS, and I have no control over the treatment of your package in transit! It’s just as much of a bummer for me to see damaged prints and artwork as it is for you to receive them. Please also take care when framing your new art or stretching.

That being said, this is how I typically handle situations that fall outside of my control:

Damaged Print/art: If your print is damaged in transit I am happy to handle this on a case by case basis with individual collectors who are able to provide details and documentation of the damage. Creasing and bends can be flattened. I can walk you through the process on fixing these yourself. If you would rather exchange for a new print please see the exchange policy above. If your order is a complete loss and I offer a reprint, I may ask that you return the print to my studio, either in the original packaging or in sturdy packaging purchased at your local post office. Collectors are responsible for shipping costs for replacement prints. Collectors may be asked to file a claim with the shipping service. I am unable to replace for free any prints damaged after delivery, so please place your print in a place away from possible water or heat damage, and handle the artwork with care when framing and stretching.

Not Delivered / Lost / Stolen: If your package is marked “Delivered” and yet is nowhere to be found on your doorstep, please first check your confirmation email to ensure that you input the correct shipping address. I am unable to replace any print order for free if the shipping address is incorrect. If the address is correct and you believe your package to have been lost, stolen, or if you missed the delivery, you must contact the shipping service personally. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything I can do on my end, I am unable to address any failed delivery or theft issues directly since I am not you. If a package is unable to be delivered, and is returned to my studio, I am happy to reship, but ask that you pay the for the additional postage. If you package is returned to the studio I will contact you for the correct address and you will be asked to pay additional shipping. I am unable to reprint any order for free that has been not delivered, lost, or stolen.

How will my prints and artwork be shipped?

Prints:

  • All prints are handled carefully, packaged beautifully in paper or plastic depending on their size.

  • Prints 11x14 and smaller are mailed in a sturdy flat mailer and come within a plastic sleeve while prints 16x20 and larger are mailed in a thick tube wrapped within paper.

  • Shipped via USPS 1st Class Mail or Priority Mail (usually arrives within 1-3 days within the US).

Original Artwork

  • All artwork will not ship until it is fully dried and ready for packaging (about 1 month from painting completion)

  • All artwork is padded extremely well depending on what it’s painted on

    • For work on paper - This may be sandwiched between cardboard inside a plastic sleeve and inside a cardboard flat mailer depending on size. Works on paper may also be rolled over a foam pool tube wrapped in paper and inside a mailer tube. Works on paper may have some creases from rolling, these are easily smoothed out during the framing process.

    • Works on canvas will be heavily padded and wrapped in paper and sent in a card board box.

  • Most artwork is sent via USPS or UPS and arrives within 1-3 days for US orders. Please note your shipping price will vary greatly depending on the size, weight and destination of your artwork. All artwork includes tracking and insurance for the full price of your artwork. Because of the limitations of the estimates my website is able to make on accurate shipping charges I may need to contact you after you checkout for additional shipping charges for your artwork. I cannot ship your artwork until all shipping payments are paid in full. Thank you for your understanding.

International Shipments

  • Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on package weight and distance. If there is any discrepancy with the cost of shipping (overage or undercharge) I will let you know via email.

  • International packages are a bit tricky. Border fees, duties, and handling fees may be charged by other countries and are out of my control. Tracking is also quite unreliable with international shipments. Please know if you are ordering from outside of the US what your country’s additional charges may be so you can expect them as part of your delivery fee responsibility.

Commissioning fine art

I’d like to commission Maria to create a custom work of art for me what do I need to do?

I am so happy to hear this! I have a few opportunities for commissions:

  • Pet Portraits: Open year-round, but availability is based on demand, learn about pet paintings

  • Home/venue paintings: Open year-round but availability is also based on demand, learn about my custom home paintings

  • Open commissions: These are paintings based on something you would like to have me create, these are very limited and only open a few times a year. My email list is the first to hear about their ability. If you would like to inquire about availability you can inquire about commissioning your artwork here

What kind of artwork do you offer?

I am a multi-media artist working primarily in watercolor, acrylic, oil pastel, pen and ink, and calligraphy. My style tends to be very loose and impressionistic and at times whimsy, focusing more on form and feeling than on capturing true-to-life details.
